In the past, walkers strolled from Narrowsburg, New York, along River Road on the Pennsylvania side of the Upper Delaware to the Fellowship's former meeting place in Milanville. Since 1998, when the Fellowship moved its meetings to Beach Lake, Pennsylvania, the walk has begun and ended at the Berlin Township Community Center -- in the neighborhood of five miles.

To collect pledges and join in the walk, print out one of the versions of this pledge form and let the Fellowship know of your interest. If you can't make the walk yourself, you can make a generous donation by mail to the address shown at the bottom of this page. All funds collected are distributed to the designated organizations the following spring.

How did this event get started? Bud Rue was a charter member of the Upper Delaware Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. Back in 1993, he asserted that, while he thoroughly enjoyed talks and discussions, he felt strongly that the group should be "out there doing something" to help less fortunate people. So after helping to organize the Wayne County chapter of Habitat for Humanity, he persuaded the Fellowship to sponsor a fundraiser with proceeds to be donated to local charities.

'Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.' - Margaret Mead

Who was Bud Rue?

Bud himself was unable to complete that first Walk. Each year since then, consistent with our statement of purpose, the Fellowship has sponsored the Bud Rue Memorial Walk for Social Justice to help our neighbors. During the first walk, Bud fell victim to a cardiopulmonary arrest, brought on by an asthma attack, and he died. The Fellowship has carried the event forward annually, named in Bud's memory, benefiting the same original charities.

BUSINESS SPONSORS

Local people, businesses and organizations, friends and family of Fellowship members, and others willing to contribute to worthy causes, have given generously each year. Businesses that contributed to the 2005 walk include The River Reporter newspaper of Narrowsburg; and the First National Bank of Jeffersonville, the everybody bank.
